What is a debt management plan?

A debt management plan or DMP is a common program administered by Non-profit and For-profit credit counseling agencies. These plans help consumers liquidate their debt through a repayment plan that is administered by the counseling agency. As clients make weekly or monthly payments to the counseling agency, the agency then distributes proposed payments to creditors.
